NACBS/ NAVSA Early Career Network Collaboration

Description

On November 12-15, 2026, the NACBS and NAVSA will host our annual conferences in Pasadena, CA. The ECN collaboration will bring together precariously employed early career scholars from both organizations for several online networking and professionalization events in advance of our conferences, and will culminate with an in-person workshop and networking event at our annual meetings. Successful applicants will receive funding  of up to $1000 to cover travel and accommodations to attend our in-person annual meetings. Registration fees will be waived for ECN participants. This program is supported by a grant from the American Council of Learned Societies Intention Foundry.

The in-person workshop will provide participants with feedback on a work-in-progress in a supportive environment. Works-in-progress can include (but are not limited to) drafts of articles, book chapters, research proposals, or conference papers. Based on submissions, participants will be assigned to smaller groups of 3-5 members. Participants will submit the work-in-progress to members of their small groups at least three weeks before the in-person workshop.

Eligibility

Applicants must be within five years of completing the PhD, cannot be employed in a tenure-track position, and can demonstrate a clear lack of financial support for their research.  This program is separate from our regular call for papers, and participants do not need to already appear on the program in order to apply.

Application Instructions

Please fill out the application form found here. The application consists of several short answer questions, general information, and a two-page CV. The use of generative artificial intelligence in the preparation and completion of the application is not permitted.
