NACBS Endowment Fund Grants
Description
The NACBS Endowment Fund sustains an ongoing grants program to support British Studies scholarship, in line with our mission to support the study of multiple complex pasts of Britain and its empire across methodological, disciplinary, and geographical perspectives. This flexible funding can be used to support research travel, access to databases, digital humanities projects, image reproduction fees, or other costs associated with the production of a work of scholarship. Members can apply for up to $2000 in one of three categories.
Instructions
Eligibility
Applicants must be members of NACBS in good standing and meet the criteria for the category in which they submit their application. Please note these awards are not intended to support travel to our annual meeting.
Categories
1. Precarious Scholars
The Precarious Scholars category provides support for precariously employed scholars, including post-doctoral, adjunct professors, independent scholars, and otherwise un/underemployed members who receive little to no professional development support, and whose employment is not stable year over year. In order to be eligible, the applicant must be a current member of NACBS who is within 5 years of completing the PhD, is precariously employed, and can demonstrate a clear lack of support for their research.
2. Unsupported Faculty
The Unsupported Faculty category provides professional development support for scholars employed in teaching-focused, clinical, or instructor roles, or whose institutions do not provide any such funding. This category is for scholars who are employed in full-time, stable positions, but whose roles do not provide support for professional development or research. In order to be eligible, applicants must be a member of the NACBS who teaches full-time and can demonstrate a lack of support for their research.
3. Mid-Career Faculty
The Mid-Career Faculty category supports continued scholarly growth in the face of shrinking departmental resources. In order to be eligible, applicants must be a member of the NACBS who is within ten years of attaining the rank of associate professor, and can demonstrate a lack of sufficient support for their research.
