A recent call for papers from JBS
The Journal of British Studies seeks submissions for a special series of short essays to be published over the course of 2026 on the topic of “1776: Views from the British World.” These essays are intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and to complicate traditional narratives of this transformative event by situating it in a larger British world context. Essays should be approximately 3000-4000 words (including footnotes) and can tackle this prompt from any perspective. Interested authors should submit a short proposal of 250 words that outlines the argument of the intended essay and how it fits into the author’s larger body of scholarship.
