NACBS2025 Virtual Day!

Nov 3, 2025

November 5 is Virtual Day!

The virtual component of our 2025 annual meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 5. This virtual day was organized as a way to make our conference more accessible to those who are unable to travel to the in-person meeting for a variety of reasons.

The virtual sessions are open for all conference registrants to attend. In solidarity with the members of our community who cannot travel to Montreal, we encourage all conference participants to attend the virtual sessions that will take place on Wednesday. This pilot event is likely to be an imperfect experience and we appreciate everyone's patience as we work to make our annual meeting accessible and inclusive.

Important Information for Virtual Meeting Rooms

The most current draft version of the program can be found here, on the conference homepage. Please note, the pdf and draft program will not include virtual session links. A separate virtual schedule with session links will be available on a password-protected page on the day before November 5. If you are registered to attend the annual meeting (whether in-person or online) you should have received an email with the information for the webpage and password. If you did not, please contact digital@nacbs.org.

Open Events

There are two events scheduled during our virtual programming that are open for all to attend. You do not need to be registered for the annual meeting in order to attend the Awards Ceremony or the DEI session. Information for these events is included here.

Awards Ceremony

For the first time this year, the NACBS will host its award ceremony virtually. We hope that you will join us to celebrate our 2025 award winners! Tune in to hear our prize and fellowship announcements and congratulate the winners. RSVP here to attend.

What Can I Do? Pt II. NACBS DEI Session

Come learn about your roles, rights, and options for supporting students, staff, and colleagues in a time of rapid change and uncertainty. We'll consider specific advice for people in different positions within the academy; how to control what you can while continuing to foster diverse, dynamic, accessible, and inclusive intellectual communities; the role of tenured faculty and the role of staff, non-tenured faculty, and grad students as we navigate challenges to academic freedom, diversity, equity, and inclusion. RSVP here to attend.

Format and Expectations

All of the virtual panels will take place via Zoom. Please note that expectations for professional behavior are the same as in-person sessions.

We suggest the following as the standard practice for Q&A at the virtual panels. Session participants and chairs are free to set up their own rules and norms for their sessions. But we have encouraged virtual chairs to follow this format:

  1. Type QUESTION into the chat if you have a question.

  2. Optionally, some Session Chairs may elect to allow follow-ups. In that case, type FOLLOW-UP TO [Name]’s QUESTION if you have a follow-up.

  3. The Session Chair will call on questioners in turn. When called on, please unmute your mic and ask your question.

  4. Feel free to use the chat to add remarks and information, but do not expect the speaker to follow the chat.

  5. If time is running out and you haven’t had time to ask your question, we encourage you to type your question into the chat. Feel free to also add useful information or comments to the chat. The chat log will be saved and made available to the presenters.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday November 5!
