As part of our duties as co-chairs of the NACBS Grad Caucus, we are asked to host a panel at the NACBS conference every year. This year's panel is entitled Professional Development Workshop: “Designing a Syllabus for the British Survey” (Session Seven: Saturday, November 11, 1:10pm - 2:40pm). We have an incredible set of panelists–Dr. Mikki Brock (Washington and Lee University), Dr. Arianne Chernock (Boston University), and PhD Candidate Nastasha Sartore (University of Toronto)--who will offer their insights into designing a syllabus and teaching a survey course.
The goal of this workshop is to facilitate a hands-on discussion of what makes a good survey course and what makes a good syllabus for such a course. This is a great opportunity for people to review and discuss a draft syllabus of their own or from courses taken as an undergraduate and to receive feedback and suggestions from peers and experienced professors. To that end, we ask that if you plan to attend this workshop let us know if you are willing and able to bring a copy of a British/history survey syllabus with you for discussion. Simply leave a comment in the Google group indicating your intention to attend. The more examples we all have to look at, the better!
